I have been making fine furniture since 1982.

I studied at Leeds Design Workshops in Massachusetts under David Powell, an apprentice of Edward Barnsley, one of the founders of the Arts and Crafts movement in England. Some of the other instructors I had were John Tierney, Kristina Madsen, Bruce Volz, and Silas Kopf, along with many intensive workshops with experts in different aspects of furniture making. The process of learning the skills of fine furniture construction focused on the expert use of hand tools to accomplish the various tasks involved in fashioning wood and cutting joints. All of the steps in making a piece had to be first mastered using only hand tools. Then we were allowed the use of power equipment to do some of the roughing operations. Most joinery is still cut by hand.

Since school, I have worked for a few different craftsmen from whom I have learned a large variety of skills, and gained invaluable hands-on and field experience. I started my own business in 1992, and have continued learning and growing in my appreciation of and skill in working wood. I have made assorted pieces of furniture of virtually every style and period, everything from acoustic guitars to laminate countertops. I have installed everything from kitchens to custom built-ins and libraries.
